Privacy and cookies

Ørjan Hanssen is responsible for personal data processed by Wordfeud Rules. Contact orjan.hanssen@me.com with questions or privacy requests.

Your searches and running the website

The letters you enter are sent to our server to find matching words. No account is required, and we do not create a personal search history. Searches appear in the URL and may therefore remain in browser history and technical logs.

Our server may process IP addresses, timestamps, requested URLs, browser information and errors to operate the service, diagnose problems and limit misuse. This is based on our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure service. Application error logs are rotated daily and retained for up to 14 days. Web-server error logs are rotated daily, or when they reach 100 MB, with up to 52 archives. Access logging is disabled. The actual retention period depends on activity and errors. Records relating to a security incident may be retained while the incident is investigated.

DigitalOcean provides the server, managed through Laravel Forge. Articles are synchronized from Contentful to our server. Your browser does not contact Contentful when you read them.

Cookies and your choices

Necessary cookies may be used for sessions, security and remembering consent choices. They are not used for audience analytics or advertising. Our session cookie normally lasts two hours. The consent platform provides details of its own storage periods and vendors.

When analytics and advertising are enabled, we use Google's certified consent platform. You can accept, decline or manage your choices. The word finder works without consent to analytics or advertising. Our implementation does not load Analytics or request ads until the consent platform has provided the required permissions.

. You can withdraw consent at any time to stop further use of the relevant services. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before it. You can also delete cookies in your browser.

Google Analytics 4

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand page visits and use of the word finder. Google may process page views, timestamps, browser and device details, approximate location and a cookie-based identifier. Connecting to Google's services also sends your IP address to Google.

Our measurement code removes query parameters and fragments from page and referrer URLs before sending them to Analytics. We send the number of word matches, but not the letters you entered. We do not use Google Signals or Analytics data for personalized advertising audiences. Our Analytics cookies are configured to expire after at most 180 days without automatic renewal on later visits.

Analytics relies on consent. User and event data retention is set to two months, without a reset on new user activity. Aggregated reports may have different retention periods. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Google AdSense

Advertising helps fund this service. When you consent to the necessary advertising purposes, Google and the partners listed in the consent platform may process cookies, IP addresses, page URLs, device information and ad interactions to select, display and measure ads. Personalized advertising requires consent. Declining consent prevents ad loading in our implementation.

The consent platform lists purposes, partners and their processing and retention information. See also Google's advertising information. We never ask you to click ads to support the website.

Service providers and international processing

Service providers may process information in several countries. Transfers of personal data outside the EEA require an applicable transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. Google describes its transfer mechanisms here. Contact us for information about our providers, processing arrangements and international transfers.

Contact and your rights

If you email us, we process the information to answer and follow up, based on our legitimate interest in handling enquiries. We retain enquiries for as long as needed for that purpose and any necessary follow-up.

Depending on the processing, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. We may need additional context to identify information associated with a browser. Send requests to orjan.hanssen@me.com. You may also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority at datatilsynet.no.
